Laphroaig Announces New Cairdeas Madeira

CaidreasBottle Tube_2016Laphroaig (La-‘froyg) has announced the launch of the 2016 Cairdeas expression, Laphroaig Cairdeas Madeira. Released annually as a limited edition offering, Cairdeas is crafted by Laphroaig distillery manager, John Campbell, to celebrate friendship (“Cairdeas” means friendship in Gaelic), and honor the Friends Of Laphroaig community, an integral component of the Laphroaig family.

Cairdeas Madeira features fully matured Laphroaig that is aged in ex-bourbon barrels before being artfully married together for a second maturation in Madeira seasoned traditional casks.

“Laphroaig Cairdeas Madeira is what I like to consider friendship, distilled,” said Campbell. “This year’s bottling is special because it’s so different from our previous releases. The aging of the liquid in Madeira casks makes 2016’s Cairdeas exceptionally flavorful and robust, while still maintaining Laphroaig’s characteristic peat and smoke. The result is a truly special whisky.”

Laphroaig Cairdeas Madeira is said to be “bold and lingering with distinctive earthy flavors, creamy orange tones and a hint of dry saltiness.” Shared as part of Laphroaig’s global #OpinionsWelcome campaign, Campbell likens the experience of drinking Cairdeas Madeira to “dunking a licorice-laced orange into the burning embers of a fire pit…and jumping in afterwards.” Laphroaig encourages fans across the world to share their own opinion of its expressions at http://www.Laphroaig.com/Opinions or on social media with the hashtag #OpinionsWelcome.

Bottled at 103 proof, Laphroaig Cairdeas Madeira is now available stateside in very limited quantities at a suggested price of $74.99 per 750ml bottle.
